Nightfall: Chapter 3

We followed the police car for a mile, there was a parade of police cars. Sirens going off, I thought I was going to be deaf. It was a bank robbery. Big, 20 people involved, hostages. I looked at tony and he shook his head. We couldn't get involved, not without alerting everyone to what we were. A police men noticed us and walked over. "I'm going to have to ask you to stand back, there may be gunfire and we don't want civilians to get hurt." We nodded and complied.

Though I wouldn't let the hostages get hurt.

That was the problem with power. I felt like I had to stop every crime I knew about. I felt responsible. tony could sense this. I knew he could. He didn't know I was a werewolf, but he knew I wanted to do something.

"Let's go around back, I think I know a way in." I told him. He gave me a weary look, but said nothing. We went around the block, to a building adjacent the bank. up the stairs to the top floor, the roof. I found where the robbers stashed there stuff. They repelled down into the bank. What a good idea, now I can use it to get behind them. I leaned over the edge ,forgetting my fear of heights, and gripped the rope and jumped. Tony followed me down.

We landed on the bank rooftop and went down the air vent as quietly as we could.

When I said as quietly as we could, I meant that we tumbled down and fell out on top of one of the bank robbers.

The thieves reacted fast, telling us to get to our feet. We did, we listened to them. At this point I thought we were lucky to be alive. But when the moment would reveal itself, I would strike, and I hoped that Tony would follow suit.

We were led to join the rest of the hostages, and it became clear that this wasn't just another heist. blood on some of the hostages suggested something darker. They sat us down near one of the groups who had been bitten. I leaned in a little closer, disguised as me shifting about, and noticed to holes in the guys neck. I gave Tony a confused look, and he returned it. Something was up, and I wanted to know what. Even if it would kill me. Not that it would be hard, werewolf regenerative properties and whatnot. Well, that, and nightbane training. Not that any of these guys were vampires. Well, not that I've ever seen a vampire, other than that one time, he looked like an ordinary person to me. I started looking at the robbers, none of them had any blood dripping from them. I found myself imagining the bloodied maw of a vampire in the many vampire movies that were so popular years ago.

That's when I saw him. It. Whomever. The vampire. He looked old, white hair, clean shaven. he looked clean, but, different. Maybe it was the training, or my enhanced senses, but he looked slightly off to me. Maybe it was just my imagination, my mind playing tricks on me. He moved with grace, looking at the hostages, or rather, looking down at them. He looked at them as though they were peasants, lessers that he didn't think were worth his time. He gestured to one of the masked men, and they started to bring some of the hostages to the back of the bank. I could only guess at what their fate would be. He gave me a brief look, and departed the same way the hostages went.

I gave Tony another look, some of the robbers seemed distracted, now was our chance. I shimmied out of my bonds and kicked the nearest guys knee outward, so that he fell to his knees, and then I rammed his head into the ground. A surprise attack. The others were slow to respond, which instantly set off red flags all over the place. I ran to the next guy, as he began to pull out his sidearm, forgetting his submachine gun. I tackled him. No time for fancy footwork or handy-work to take him down. His gun never went off, it clicked, and was empty. the man fell and was subdued easily. He seemed dazed, uncertain, I ripped off his mask and saw two holes in his neck.
