"I... I don't know. I just do."

Was it human nature? Or just me being... Myself?

"It's just a kind of thing. Like, I'm guessing you found me somewhere, huddled up. You didn't have to come and help me, you could've walked pass."

It's human kindness. The most valuable thing one can have. Now, you said the footsteps were faster. Why do you think they are running? Why not simply more people on the sidewalk?

"It was an educated guess, really. Just the patttern of footsteps... It was a repeating sequence, not several different steps."

I watch the young Newblood, eyeing her carefully, looking for any sign of weakness as she was questioned and tested easily, swiftly. She was good at this, at least. Her hearing was very keen, even for a Vampire, and her sense of smell was quite strong. In terms of her senses, she seemed to be doing okay.
I could only wonder how'd they'd train her in combat. Would they spar like human swordsman, trying to one up the other but not harm? Or would they travel out against Wolves?

Whatever happened, I couldn't deny... I was becoming sorely impressed by the young Newblood.

Logic, that's good. Now, how many cars are on the road? Are they going fast? slow? Are they going in clumps or just spread out?

"They are most likely spread out, as their is usually no small variations when they go past. They always seem to be slow, the sound drags out."

Why do you think they are spread out?

"The sound drags out, but isn't repeated very often."

No, I mean, why would the cars be spread out. Why would there only be maybe one or two cars coming down the road, as opposed to a large traffic clump.

"Oh. Urm... I don't know."

I shrugged.

Take a guess. Think about all the possibilities, and test them against what you hear.

"The road isn't a main route, therefore people avoid it... I... I don't know."

That's a good guess. And you'd be correct. Now, try to focus on your own body, what do you hear?

On my own body? How... Well, there was my heartbeat, which I could hear quite clearly, if I did focus.

"My heartbeat... My breathing. Nothing else really."

Little to it a little harder. Can you hear the subtle sounds of your bones moving?

I watch intently, content in studying not only the Newblood, but Anton and Seln as well. Their methods would be interesting to learn, if not judge. Seln was running very thorough tests, ensuring the Newblood could operate. But he wasn't preparing her for what would throw her mind overboad soon. That would be interesting.

There was something, but it wasn't very clear. I guessed because it was a sound I wasn't used to hearing, or a sound I was even meant to hear.

"I can hear... Something."

"It's... It's something I can't describe. It's like I'm not meant to here it."

Exactly. We hear more than the average human. Now, use that sense of hearing...

=i quickly grab a pen and throws it at her, aiming just to the left of her head=

I heard something move. The slight movement of what was it... Bones? Yeah. Not footsteps, so it had to be... Urm, throwing? I moved to the right slightly.

I watch, quite impressed, and smile a little as I lean up.
"Quick reaction, for a Newblood. Maybe I misjudged you."

"Thanks. I'm just lucky, really."

Maybe it wasn't luck at all, really. But I wasn't that kind of person, really.

But there was a sense of satsifaction, of course.
