Nightfall: Chapter 1

=The old man walked into the cafe at a normal pace, as if he were headed there anyway. When he got inside, he sat at the counter with a smile. A waitress came to him within two minutes. He was polite, and rather light-hearted, and ordered only a cup of straight black tea. His back was to almost the entire room, something that would seem foolish. It would seem...=

The dog smell intensified and I gave him a hard look across the table.

This is about to get very messy. And all these lives are now on your head.

If you weren't, then explain to me why I smell, A, gunpowder on you, and B, why you were chasing me.

=i flick my knife open underneath the table and lower my voice=

I nudge my head very, very slightly to the side.

=i said brother in the sense that we were both vampires, not actually related. I flicked my knife closed just as the owner stopped by with my usual, a small deep-dish pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni. I started eating, mouthing thank you to the owner as he went back to the others=

I give a long and loud sigh.

Kill th dog first. Then I'll answer your questions. He is a bigger threat here.

=The old man sang quietly, yet cheerfully, to himself as he drank the tea. It sounded like meaningless lyric of a foreign tongue...=

they were talking about dogs in the place, that could only mean me. I stand, looking one of the vamps in the eye and shouted

"Look out! He's got a gun!"

As the place clears, I stand staring at the vamps, waiting for their move.

=He watches the crowd clear out, but does not move. He continues sipping the tea and singing=

I don't stand nor even glance at the commotion.

"Still not a fight in your favour then, blood sucker?"

I slowly stand up from the table, taking a slice of the pizza and chewing it lazily

=i lean back and look at the owner. He's scared shitless, but standing there, willing to protect his place. He looks back at me and motions to the area under the counter, and I shake my head. He take his hand back, and instead hits the silent alarm. I stand up and flick my two knives out, taking the package out and walking over to the counter, to set it down=

=i look him in the eye and trance him=

"I assure you, I'm no mutt. Killing your kind is just another day's work."

=He finished his tea and turned to watch the scene unfolding. He remained seated and silent=

=as the owner takes the package and slides down behind the counter out of sight, I turn to the werewolf=
Come now, furry. Surely we can be reasonable about this? You must know the police are on their way.

Not to mention the Nightbane. We could rip you to shreds and be long gone by then. But we're giving you a chance here. Turn around and walk away. We have business between the two of us tht doesn't concern you.

I bare my teeth.
"I'd like to see you try, parasite."

I was ready to change, waiting for the perfect moment to do so.

I sigh and check the time. It was getting late. If I changed out in the open, well. I almost shuddered to think of the city.

What do you hope to accomplish here? All you're doing is causing more trouble.

=The old man got up from his seat and silently walked over to the other lycanthrope. He placed his free hand on his shoulder and spoke softly, in a calming voice. His magic was still up, so there may have yet been some pacifying influence=

Save your strength, young one. It is not worth it. Fly now, I will deal with them.

I felt calm rush through me.

"You... You are old. Find me, before I leave this city. I would like to speak with you."
I bow my head respectfully to the old man and give the vamps a final glare before leaving the scene.

I give the dog a wave off as he leaves before turning to the old man.

Thank you. It would have been more complicated if he had turned.

=He nods and watches him leave before turning his attention to the vampires=

You address a Lycanthrope as a 'he' rather than an 'it'. That is uncommon of your kind.

I address them as furries, thank you.

=i flip my knives around, ending in what is known as an icepick grip, where the blade is down. I don't fully trust this man. Not yet=

As I said to the dog. I have lived for 800 years. I know werewolves have as little choice in their change as we do. Deep down, we are all human.
